Gharaunda is an independent/self-proclaimed project focused on the development of housing models for the lower-income population of rural India. It aims to improve the minimum standard of housing conditions in these areas and to create new livelihoods based on local resources and housing supply.
Gharaunda model I is for the district of Madhubani, state of Bihar, and seeks the demonstration of mud and bamboo as permanent buildings’ components; the introduction of basic infrastructures and its sustainable use; and the development of local market based mechanisms and construction-training programs for delivering such product/service.
